The best care is the care that keeps you well

August was National Wellness Month, a time to focus on the small, steady habits that can add up to better health.

Optum Care Washington is proud to serve one of the healthiest states in our country, according to America’s Health Rankings 2025 Annual Report. But we can do more. Preventive care visits; blood pressure and cholesterol checks; immunizations; screenings for common cancers; and staying on top of your mental health are all ways to help people stay well.

We know life gets busy, and it’s easy to put off preventive visits. But, catching issues earlier can make them easier to treat. Our care team is here as your partner to take charge of your health.

Small steps you can take for your health

Not sure where to start? Here are a few simple steps you can take:

  • Schedule your annual visit if you haven’t had one this year.
  • Ask your provider which cancer screenings are right for your age and health history.
  • Review recommendations for immunizations, which vary for each person, including the annual flu shot, which is coming soon this fall.
  • Talk honestly with your provider about stress, anxiety, or sleep. These are real, common, and treatable.

Why prevention is a core pillar of our approach to value-based care and caring for the whole person

Value-based care means a team working to help you stay healthy — not simply treating you when you’re sick. It’s focused on prevention, coordinating your care, and building a plan and team around your individual health needs. Your health outcomes, not the quantity of health care services you receive, is the priority.

Preventive care is the foundation. Every wellness visit, every screening, every early conversation is how value-based care can deliver on its promise: better health outcomes, fewer surprises, and a health system that can work better for everyone.

Our local care organizations have served Puget Sound residents for more than 100 years, and our mission is simple: to provide the primary and specialty care you need to live better. Let’s take some small steps together for your health and your whole life.
