Caring Beyond Borders: How Optum Care Washington Is Making a Global Impact

At Optum Care Washington, caring for people is at the center of everything we do. This year, several of our clinicians and staff will travel to the Dominican Republic from December 5–12, 2026. They will volunteer with One World Surgery, a nonprofit that brings safe, high quality care to communities with limited access.

Our teams also served with One World Surgery in 2025, and the experience made a lasting impact. It strengthened their skills and deepened their commitment to helping others.

Meeting a global need

In many parts of the world, people live with pain or illness because they cannot get the care they need. One World Surgery works with local communities to provide free surgeries, primary care, and training for local medical teams.

Their work makes a real difference. In Honduras, they supported more than 1,400 surgeries and 9,500 surgical consults in one year—all at no cost to patients.

Why our teams volunteer

Volunteering gives our clinicians a chance to use their skills where care is limited. They work with local medical teams, help treat patients, and support long term improvements in the community.

Team members who served in 2025 said the experience was meaningful and inspiring. Many returned with a renewed sense of purpose.

How this helps our patients in Washington

These mission trips strengthen how our clinicians care for patients at home. They return with new skills, a broader view of health care, and a deeper understanding of the challenges many people face. This leads to more compassionate, patient centered care in every visit.

Proud to support this mission

We are proud of the team members preparing for the December 2026 mission and grateful for our continued partnership with One World Surgery. Together, we support the belief that everyone deserves access to high quality care—no matter where they live.

By taking part in global health work each year, we grow our culture of service and strengthen the care we provide across Washington and around the world.
