Specialist guidance without the visit

At Optum Care Washington, your health is our priority, and we want to make sure you have access to quick and convenient care when you need it. One way we’re doing that is by offering virtual care options such as E-visits or on-demand video visits so you can get the care you need at a time that works best for you. We are also expanding our virtual care offerings, including our newest option: E-consults, to make getting care even simpler. Read on to learn more about E-consults.

What is an E-consult

If you need advice from a specialist, your doctor can do more than recommend one. An E-consult is a way for your doctor to get advice from a specialist on your behalf and provide you with care recommendations within a few days. Your doctor can discuss your concerns with a specialist, and you won’t need to schedule a separate visit with the specialist unless they think it is necessary.

Here are the specialties that your doctor can currently request an E-consult from:

  • Cardiology
  • Dermatology
  • Endocrinology
  • Ear, nose, and throat
  • Gastroenterology
  • General surgery
  • Gynecology
  • Hand surgery
  • Hematology
  • Lifestyle and metabolic medicine
  • Lipid clinic
  • Nephrology
  • Neurology
  • Oncology
  • Orthopedics
  • Comprehensive pain center
  • Physiatry
  • Podiatry
  • Psychiatry
  • Pulmonology
  • Rheumatology
  • Sports medicine
  • Urology
  • Coming soon: Allergy
  • Coming soon: Sleep medicine

What are the benefits of an E-consult

With an E-consult, you can get specialist advice without an appointment. Requesting an E-consult only takes your doctor 5-10 minutes during your visit and will save you time and effort. Your doctor will send you care recommendations within a few days, so you won’t need to schedule a separate visit with a specialist or wait for care guidance until their next available appointment. Depending on your insurance coverage, a cost may be incurred for an E-consult.

We’re always looking for ways to improve your healthcare experience. Virtual care options like E-consults are just one of the ways we’re bringing care closer to you. Your health matters, and we’re committed to making it easier than ever to get the guidance and support you need.
